Lil Durk Shows Us His Voice In Tribute to King Von

On Christmas Eve, Lil Durk dropped a surprise sixth studio album, The Voice, which features collaborations from 6lack, Young Thug, and Chicago rapper King Von who was recently killed.

The Chicago native tributed this 16-track album to his late friend, whose death impacted many fans‘ lives.

A Tribute to a Friend.

Before the album drop, Durk released Backdoor —a tribute to King Von featured on The Voice. Von is also on the cover of the album next to Durk with the words “Long Live Grandson” above him.

In 2018, King Von signed to Lil Durk’s recording label—Only The Family and pooped onto the scene with his single Crazy Story. He blew up within the Chicago rap scene and gained some national traction. In early November this year, Von was involved in an altercation that led to his death at an Atlanta nightclub.

Lil Durk’s 2020

Despite the topic of the album, Lil Durk has been on a blaze in 2020. His fifth album, Just Cause Y’all Waited 2 released earlier this year in May. The album contains his second highest-charting song, 3 Headed Goat, featuring Polo G and Lil Baby.

In August of this year, Lil Durk collaborated with Drake on his popular single, Laugh Now Cry Later. The single has received Grammy nominations and spent over 20 weeks in the Billboard Hot 100.

The Chicago drill star is still on top of his game with his flow and enduring rap style throughout the album. Durk comes to terms with the tragedies of quarantine, friends dying, and his ties to the streets while being a part of the rich and famous.

In under 24 hours, the album hit #1 on the US Apple Music charts and looks to be ending 2020 strong. Notable songs that bring the album together are Still Trappin’Stay Down, and The Voice.

Lil Durk stays true to the Trap and Gansta Drill music we know him for. He shows us a side of his vulnerability with some harder topics touched on in his songs. This year has been challenging for many, and Lil Durk shows how it has made him a better rapper.
