Lauren Spencer-Smith, GAYLE, and Em Beihold on “Fantasy”

Lauren Spencer-Smith vies for main pop-girl status on new collaboration with GAYLE and Em Beihold, titled “Fantasy.” The musician is quickly rising from MTV VMA’s side stage after rolling out 100M+ streamed singles like “Fingers Crossed” and “Flowers.” Lauren’s newest single is with TikTok sensations GAYLE and Em Beihold. Even though GAYLE’s “abcdefu” put the singer in hot water, she is currently on a redemption arc as a one of the star openers for Taylor Swift’s The Eras Tour.

“When writing ‘Fantasy,’ I wanted to capture how hard toxic relationships are and that coming out of those relationships can be so powerful,” says Spencer-Smith. “GAYLE and Em instantly connected with the topic and their verses helped take the song to another level.

Just from the first bar the song is so cool and the fact that she wanted us on it was the greatest honor. We’re living out our Powerpuff dream.”

This pop-girl collaboration arrives ahead of Lauren’s debut album, due this summer via Island Records. Island Records, subdivision of Republic Records, also houses Sabrina Carpenter, Demi Lovato, Drake, FLO and Ariana Grande.

To date, Lauren’s biggest charting single, “Fingers Crossed,” earned her a RIAA Platinum certification. Following singles “Flowers” and “Narcissist” harvested plenty of spin-offs but made awesome performances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the 2022 MTV VMAs, and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

The Bad Thing About Being A “TikTok Artist”

However, nothing can compare to the GAYLE’s seven versions of “abcdefu.” It’s all a new-age marketing ploy to garner streams to the original single to increase chart rankings– nothing more. The singer faced extreme scrutiny for the song’s excessive rollout, leaving the internet undermining her success and questioning her legitmancy.

Em Beihold is a victim of the same “TikTok artist” scrutiny even after hitting No. 1 on Radio with her song “Numb Little Bug.” Although ecstatic about her success, she labelled the amount of relatability as “not a good thing” since the song is about being antidepressants.
