Last year, 39-year-old music icon Kid Cudi introduced his new fashion line, Members Of The Rage, to the world. Now, Kanye’s ex-friend sets for MOTR’s Paris Fashion Week debut this January (exact date TBA.) Paris’s Menswear Fashion Week is from Tuesday, January 17, 2023, to Sunday, January 22, 2023.
In his own words, MOTR is “90s grunge with the soul of hip hop and elements from a distant future.” However, the mere $395 for a shirt with twin lightning bolts and a center-faced UFO portrayed the creator as out-of-touch with his average consumers. It is enough to say that the company’s debut launch was poorly received, regardless of the warning from Cudi saying that the apparel “ain’t merch” and “ain’t cheap.”
More About Kid Cudi’s Members Of The Rage
2021 saw the “Day ‘N’ Nite” artist finalizing his fashion line everyone sees today. 2022 focused on publicizing the debut collection and gauging the ever-changing fashion industry and consumer demands. Although basic cotton, the shirts are expertly illustrated in collaboration with newly-appointed Kenzo creative director and Bape-Humanmade-Billionaire Boys Club founder NIGO.
Despite the lukewarm introduction, he has made a name for himself as one of the most progressive dressers in celebrity culture. He collaborated with APC in 2019, Adidas in 2020 and is the face of Levi’s latest 501 campaign. But Cudi’s ultimate fashion-bending moment, a floral Off-White dress on SNL in 2021, instantly re-ignited the discussion around menswear fashion silhouettes. The topic’s genesis came from today’s mainstream rulebreakers like Harry Styles, Jeremy O., and Young Thug (yes, I’m referring to THIS moment!)
He took the time to answer fan questions for the new year. And 2023 will see an advent of new beginnings for MOTR, like debuting a unisex clothing line. However, the pandemic already produced a necessary discourse between gendered fashion pieces and fashion freedom. Announcing a line as “unisex” sounds like clickbait: let the material speak for itself. Subsequently, his manufacturing efforts have shifted and hints at a sneaker drop. Cudi tweeted, “Motr produced in Italy and parts of Europe. The quality is A 1. So so proud man. To have my own sneaker is the biggest accomplishment. And its rare a new brand drops w sneakers.”
