Who is Karen Harding?
Karen Harding is a singer-songwriter who makes house, R&B, pop and 2-step garage music. In 2010, she participated in the UK’s national contest to decide which artist would represent the country in that year’s Eurovision Song Contest. She made it to the final few rounds, but ultimately, was eliminated. A few years later, she competed on The X Factor, but was again eliminated.
Thankfully, though, these moments didn’t discourage her. She posted videos of her singing covers, and producer MNEK noticed. This eventually led to her signing with Method Records. In 2014, she released her debut single, “Say Something.” The song was co-written and produced by MNEK. It’s now certified platinum, and the video has over 20 million views. Since then, Harding has released bits of her own music every year.
However, aside from her own musical career, Karen Harding has been an in-demand songwriter for many other artists. There’s even a Spotify playlist of the best songs where she’s credited as a writer.
She’s also been a guest artist for many other musicians. Canadian DJ and producer Felix Cartal featured Harding on his song “Only One.” The collaboration was actually the result of a “spontaneous recording session in Los Angeles.”
Take Me Somewhere
Take Me Somewhere is, technically, Karen Harding’s first full-length album. Though she’s been releasing music since 2014, her discography thus far has been made of singles, remixes and EPs. Take Me Somewhere contains 13 tracks and is 40 minutes long.
In an Instagram post celebrating her album, Harding spoke about what this means to her. “When I first started making music, I dreamt of making an album. Well, dreams come true, and now I’m here releasing a body of work that comes straight from my heart and shows my identity as an artist. A surreal moment. ‘Take me Somewhere’ has been years in the making and it’s now ready. To everyone who has worked on this with me, thank you so much. I’m pinching myself right now. This is so exciting, I can’t wait for you to hear this special album and hopefully let it ‘take you somewhere’…”
