Kane Brown and blackbear have teamed up for “Memory”, a mid-tempo pop single that expresses their most vulnerable emotions. The duo seem an unlikely pair – a country superstar and R&B pop giant – but have created a new hit for the summer. Released on July 9th, “Memory” is steadily climbing the charts and rising in popularity.
Kane Brown and Blackbear Get Vulnerable
Kane Brown and blackbear are obviously used to living life in the fast lane, but sometimes feel the need to slow down. This single reflects on their vices, including drugs and alcohol, and the anxieties of fame. In Brown’s first verse, he laments that “I’m by myself / And why won’t no one help? / I know this can’t be healthy / So I’m lookin’ for a way out”. Blackbear, also known as Matthew Tyler Musto, joins in, singing that he doesn’t “wanna be a memory”. In a celebrity culture of fancy cars, expensive champaign, and a plethora of medications, the pair confess that they yearn for the opposite.
A Video Worth the Hype
The music video for “Memory” is just as unique as the out-of-genre pairing. Featuring Brown and Musto in outer space, on the moon, and in some trippy hallways, the video is a must-watch. The overall themes of loneliness and isolation on “Memory” are prevalent throughout the video, though the duo have approached them lightheartedly. As of its release on July 9th, the clip has more than a million views.
More to Come from Kane Brown & Blackbear
The hype for “Memory” built up quick. Blackbear has recently announced his upcoming EP, “misery lake” will release next month. Fans were ecstatic to see him collaborate with Kane Brown, who has garnered a lot of attention lately for his cross-genre features. Brown posted to Instagram recently a snippet from his rumored forthcoming album, but has been rather quiet about the details.
