Jesy Nelson Teases Solo Music is “Pending”

Jesy Nelson, ex-member of girl band Little Mix, teased on her Instagram account that some upcoming solo music from her is on the way.

Jesy Nelson Quit Little Mix Back in December

Nelson officially announced that she was quitting Little Mix back in December of last year. At the time, she said she needed to focus on her mental health and couldn’t deal with the pressure of being in a girl band anymore.

In her announcement, she wrote on Instagram, “The past nine years in Little Mix has been the most incredible time of my life. We have achieved things I never thought possible. From winning our first Brit Award to our sold-out shows at the 02. Making friends and fans all over the world. I can’t thank you all enough from the bottom of my heart for making me feel like the luckiest girl in the world. You have always been there to support and encourage me and I will never ever forget it.”

“The truth is recently being in the band has really taken a toll on my mental health. I find the constant pressure of being in a girl group and living up to expectations very hard. There comes a time in life when we need to reinvest in taking care of ourselves rather than focussing on making other people happy, and I feel like now is the time to begin that process.”

“So after much consideration and with a heavy heart, I’m announcing I’m leaving Little Mix. I need to spend some time with the people I love, doing things that make me happy. I’m ready to embark on a new chapter in my life. I’m not sure what it’s going to look like right now, but I hope you’ll still be there to support me.”

Now, She’s Ready to Launch Her Solo Career

When she announced her solo album deal just five months later, in May, fans were certainly surprised. Nelson said in her announcement, “I’m so excited to finally announce that I will be signing to Polydor Records. I cannot wait for you to hear what I’ve been working on. To start this new chapter with the Universal Music team.”

In an interview with Cosmopolitan UK, Nelson explained, “I feel like there’s been a few people who don’t understand why I left Little Mix but am now in the studio making music. A lot of people said, ‘I thought you came out of the band to focus on your mental health?’ I never said when I put out my statement; that I was coming out of the band to never be in the public eye, perform again or do music. I said I was coming out of the band because I genuinely couldn’t deal with the pressure of being in a girl band.”

She added, “For people to think that I would just stop working completely is crazy. Me working on my mental health is going to the studio, and creating music that I love. That’s what clears my head and makes me happy. It’s good for my mental health.”

Since her announcement that new solo music from her was coming, she has been teasing fans on Instagram. Last week, the star wrote, “New era pending…” Nelson’s debut solo record is expected later this year.
