Jessie Ware Is Care-Free on “Free Yourself”

Jessie Ware goes full 80s on her latest single, “Free Yourself,” full of trumpets, good vibes, and self-resilience. Ware first premiered the song at her set at the 2022 Glastonbury Festival. It is her first single since the release of the “Platinum Pleasure Edition” of her “What’s Your Pleasure?” album in 2021.

A New Era

“‘Free Yourself’ is the beginning of a new era for me,” Ware explains in a press release. “I’m so excited for people to have this song for the end of their summer; to dance, to feel no inhibitions and to feel joyful because that’s how I’ve been feeling recently being able to tour again and being able to sing again. Enjoy yourself, Free Yourself!”

She talks to Genius about the recording process of her new single and her highly-anticipated fifth album coming soon. She says, “I wrote it  [Free Yourself] on the same day as I wrote another tune that you are yet to hear, on my first studio date with the incomparable Stuart Price and my old mate Clarence Coffee Jr. – It was easy, fun and I think we were all surprised when I went in for the belter chorus! I hope you enjoy it, let’s start as we mean to go on, free, joyful and dancing hard!”

The disco-y track first saw the light a few weeks ahead of its release at Glastonbury this year but was officially released in the coming weeks. However, there is no other new information about the new album (yet).

There is a bit of pressure on the 37-year-old as this new album follows her critically-acclaimed record “What’s Your Pleasure?” (2020). The album landed at No.3 on the Official UK Albums Chart and in the Top 40 of the Billboard Top Album Sales Chart. At the end of 2020, it was also a popular choice for many publications’ Albums Of The Year lists, appearing in  Billboard, The Guardian, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and more.

2021 was also an important year for Ware’s music career. First, the reissue of “What’s Your Pleasure?” saw a remix of Adore You featuring Bibi Zhou and Sihan. Then Ware collaborate with European and Australian pop queen Kylie Minogue on “Kiss of Life” from “DISCO: Guest List Edition.” This deluxe edition is from Minogue’s 15th studio album “DISCO” (2020).
