The Modern Princess Diana

The drill rap record was originally released in January on Ice Spice’s debut EP Like..? “Princess Diana” was an instant fan-favorite, making waves on the popular social media and music-based app TikTok. The track sees Ice Spice flaunting about her high stature and newfound fame while also taking jabs at her copy cats. She uses her notorious whisper-like tone while rapping about the popular memes calling her a “modern day Princess Diana.”

“Nowadays, I be duckin’ them cameras / And they hype that I’m up on them banners / Callin’ my phone, but they know I don’t answer (Why?) / In the hood I’m like Princess Diana (Grrah).”

Nicki Minaj Co-Signs Ice Spice

Similar to Ice, Minaj’s verse references her clones in the rap game and makes some subliminal disses. “Bad little redhead, she ’bout to Black/ We come out, it’s a movie, but we don’t do BAP (Woo).” Her rap nemesis Cardi B was rumored to be cast alongside Megan Thee Stallion on a remake of Halle Berry’s movie BAPS.

Nevertheless, Nicki Minaj crowns Ice Spice as the “princess” in her verse. And Spice is soaking in all her glory right now gaining the support of one of her biggest inspirations.

However, the New York rapper kept this life-changing collaboration a secret. The surprise “Princess Diana Remix” dropped last Friday without an official announcement or promotion. The music video premiered at noon the same day and as of now, has racked up a total of 17 million views. The dynamic duo live like princesses in a luxurious pink palace. The “Princess Diana Remix” music video demonstrates a genuine camaraderie between the rappers.

Despite being a new artist who is yet to release her debut album, Ice Spice has garnered a fanbase of millions and a co-sign from the queen of rap and her longtime idol, Nicki Minaj. Last Friday, Minaj announced that Spice signed a partnership under her new label, Heavy On It. The rap “princess” credits this Minaj collaboration to the power of manifestation.
