Hozier Takes His Coffee Black, But It’s Pretty Sweet He’s On Our Trending Chart

Among the many artists trending this week on Music Daily’s Trending Tracks chart, Hozier might be one of the more well-known names.

His song, “Too Sweet,” came out March 22, 2024, along with his EP, Unheard. That same day, he also re-released his 2023 album, Unreal Unearth. Unreal Unearth: Unheard compiles the EP with the other 16 songs originally on the album. Disc one of the album has the EP’s songs, while disc two houses all the other 16.

According to an Instagram post announcing the EP’s release, the four songs from Unheard, including Hozier’s “Too Sweet,” were songs that almost made the cut for the album.

Although Hozier released “Too Sweet” in late March, he first teased it on TikTok. Naturally, this quickly led to videos of people lip-syncing and doing fit checks with the song as their background music. “Too Sweet” went viral after that.

As of April 10, 2024, Hozier’s “Too Sweet” already has over 100 million streams on Spotify. The official lyric video has over six million views on YouTube. “Too Sweet” is No. 29 for YouTube’s top music video ranking.

The song is haunting, but also a little funky, with its dark, yet groovy bass. In the song, Hozier sings about how his lover is a very sunshiney person, whereas he takes his “whiskey neat,” his “coffee black” and his “bed at three.” His lover is “bright as the morning / as soft as the rain / pretty as a vine / as sweet as a grape.” He says that if his lover can “sit in a barrel,” then maybe he’ll wait before fully indulging in them. Until then, though, they’ll be “too sweet” for Hozier.
