The Story + Purpose Behind Honeyland Festival
Honeyland Festival is a two-day event to honour and elevate Black creatives that dominate a multitude of industries including food, beverage and art. From November 11 through November 12, 2023, household R&B names will perform for the festival held at Sugar Land’s Crown Festival Park. General tickets went on sale on Friday, July 21 but early access was granted to those who sign up for the Honeyland’s newsletter.
Presented by IMG and Live Nation Urban, Honeyland Festival acknowledges the contributions that Black people have brought to music, culture, food and beverages. The influence of these performers is prevalent in music today. Even more, Honeyland provides a platform for Black mixologists, blenders, wine experts, and distillers to share their talents. Honeyland offers food and beverage demonstrations, cook-off competitions, panel and podcast conversations.
According to Live Nation Urban’s president Shawn Gee, the Houston-based festival will be a cultural intersection of “the best in food and beverage.” Houston rapper Bun B expresses his admiration for Honeyland Festival in a statement reading: “It’s so important that we take the time to celebrate Black food, drink, and music, and acknowledge the impact we’ve had on American culture,”
Additionally, festival leaders recruit and work with local and diverse businesses within the community. Their objective being to invest $1 million in grants to Black creators in Houston. This will provide them with financial support, professional training, and career development to assist people of color in hospitality.
