British alt-pop artist Holly Humberstone released her newest song “Sleep Tight,” following on “I Would Die 4 U.”
“Sleep Tight” is About Friendships Evolving Into Something More
“Sleep Tight” is out now via Darkroom/Interscope/Polydor Records. The song follows previous songs released this year “I Would Die 4 U” and “London is Lonely.” Last year, Holly released her highly-anticipated EP The Walls Are Way Too Thin.
Co-written with the 1975’s Matty Healy and longtime collaborator Rob Milton; “Sleep Tight” takes on the relatable topic of falling in love with a really good friend. Holly expresses going through these moments of uncertainty and not knowing what to do next; as she doesn’t want the friendship to end if things don’t work out.
“And, oh my god, I’ve done it again. I almost killed our friendship, and I sure hope it’s worth it. And I got all this stuff boiling up. ‘Cause I got drunk and said too much,” Holly sings.
“It’s awkward trying to navigate catching feelings for a friend, as they are often feelings we might have been suppressing for some time,” Holly says. “When they float to the surface, you have to weigh up the risks of getting hurt and potentially losing them in your life. I wrote ‘Sleep Tight’ about the uncertainty of friendships evolving into something more. The first summer out of lockdown was pretty crazy for my friends and I because we finally had our freedom back and acted like we had nothing to lose. This song takes me back to that time of what felt like no consequences and impending heartbreak.”
