Gloria
Sam Smith took to Instagram to announce that Gloria, their fourth album, will drop on the 27th of January 2023 with Capitol Records. The album, recorded between Giamaica, London and Los Angeles, goes deep in the feelings of the artist. But even so, Gloria will be a creative and personal revolution made with lifelong collaborators Jimmy Napes, Stargate, Max Martin and Ilya Salmanzadeh. The first details of the project, which comes two years after Love goes, and already anticipated by the single Unholy with Kim Petras, have been revealed recently. Also, Gloria will contain 13 tracks, even though at the moment we don’t know the titles yet. And it’ll talk about the contemporary narrations of sex, lies, passion, self-expression and imperfection.
“It feels like emotional, sexual and spiritual liberation” – wrote Sam Smith – “it was beautiful, with this album, to sing freely again. Oddly, it feels like my first-ever record. And it feels like a coming of age”. And then again: “I’m feeling overwhelmed and emotional as I start to let go of ‘Gloria’ and hand this work over to you. It has been magical in every way to make this piece of music. And by giving this record to you I am giving you part of my heart and soul. ‘Gloria’ got me through some dark times and was a beacon for me in my life. I hope it can be that for you. Thank you for waiting so long. Only a few months now”.
The Success Of “Unholy”
Since its release last month, Unholy has become a worldwide hit, with 300 millions of global streams combined. Notably, it has taken the first place in Billboard Global 200, Streaming Songs and Digital Song Sales. Also it reached the top of the US Shazam rankings and number 1 in the world on Apple Music and Spotify, it’s Universal Music Group’s biggest streaming debut of the year. Furthermore, within the first 24 hours of its release, the song ranked in Spotify’s top 10 debuts of all time.
Following a multi-platinum career, with 4 Grammys and 3 BRIT Awards, it seems Sam Smith is not satisfied. They want more. The voice of Stay With Me has accepted the challenge of evolving their music one more time. Undoubtedly, trendsetter Sam Smith will be able to reach their goal as they always did.
