Don Toliver has a voice you instantly recognize when you hear it. Blending his distinct voice with trap music, Toliver has a knack for making catchy hooks and melodies. And undoubtedly, he is a hitmaker. Initially, many of us were introduced to the rapper/singer with his feature on “Can’t Say” by Travis Scott. The track rapidly caught fire, and became a crowd favorite off of Scott’s No. 1 album Astroworld in 2018.

The Start Of Don Toliver’s Career
The Houston rapper found an interest in music from his Dad, who was a musician under the name Bongo. Toliver’s Dad was a key musical influence for him, as well as Swishahouse and Pimp C. Don Toliver would then go on to explore his own sound and release his first body of work Playa Familia with Yung Josh. The collaborative mixtape arrived in 2017 and would be followed by single “Holdin’ Steel” featuring Dice Soho in 2018.
Toliver’s Rise To Stardom
Although it was his first solo debut mixtape, Donny Womack (2018), that would catch the attention of Travis Scott. Scott believed in his star quality enough to sign Toliver to his own record label, Cactus Jack. With that being said, Don would release his debut album for the label titled, Heaven Or Hell in 2020. The album title symbolizes Toliver’s highs and lows throughout his life. Subsequently, the album rose his biggest solo record to date, “No Idea,” to the top. And like many hits, Tiktok put this smash hit on the map. Even Charli D’Amelio—the most followed Tiktoker at the time—was dancing to “No Idea.” Not to mention, “After Party,” “Had Enough,” and “Cardigan,” went viral off the project as well.
Clearly, 2020 is where Toliver catapulted to stardom. In addition, he would feature on Eminem’s “No Regrets.” His biggest collaboration “Lemonade,” featuring Gunna and NAV, currently has over 1 billion streams on Spotify alone.
Most Recent Album: Life Of A Don
Fans were on the edge of their seats to see what Don Toliver would do next. Afterward, he would make his return in May 2021 with the single “What You Need.” His sophomore album Life Of A Don would arrive five months later in October, 2021. The R&B and rap fusion would feature Kali Uchis, Travis Scott, Baby Keem and more. “Swangin’ On Westheimer” is the track that made me tune into the rapper. The stunning instrumental and alluring melodies put me in a trance.
Newest Single: “Do It Right”
Released on November 18, Don Toliver’s lead single “Do It Right” interpolates “Take Your Time (Do It Right)” by The S.O.S. Band. As far as the lyrics go, it is a fun track, nothing too deep. The melodies on the hook are catchy, but it is not my favorite from him. As of now, we have not heard of a release date for the new album from Don. But, we are looking forward to hear him improve and explore his artistry.
