The song is the second single to be released off of EXO’s upcoming album, EXIST. EXIST will be the group’s seventh studio album. The group previously released the album’s first single, “Let Me In,” on June 12th.
In “Hear Me Out,” the eight-member boy group sings about reassuring their more hesitant partner in their relationship. The song is a casual, chill R&B bop. It has a retro vibe thanks to its ’90s and ’00s production influences.

“Hear Me Out” has become a quick success in only a few short days. According to SabTab at ALLKPOP, a week before the song’s release, it climbed to the No. 4 spot on Billboard’s Hot Trending Songs chart.
Only 12 hours after the song’s release, it rose to the top of the Worldwide iTunes Song chart. It also made it to No. 4 on the European iTunes Song chart. Additionally, “Hear Me Out” also went to No. 11 on the US iTunes. This makes it the quickest song from an SM Entertainment artist to pass the top 20 on the US chart.
