Eurovision 2023 will be hosted in the UK instead of Ukraine: it’s official

It will not be hosted in Ukraine, but in support of Ukraine. The 67th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest will take place in the UK, and now it’s official. After a deal with the city of Kiev, the BBC will make the show happen. Since the second place of the British in the last competition.

“ESC is gonna take place in the UK– says Martin Osterdahl, executive supervisor of the event –and with the support of the BBC as broadcaster. The plan is to make a lot of things for honoring the winners of this year. I think we’ll feel the Ukrainian culture and their local talents”.

The representatives of UA:PBC will work with the BBC for a new show made of references and tributes to Ukraine. The logo will be revealed soon, and it will also reflect the cooperation between the host country and this year’s winners. The hosting city will be chosen in the next months, after a complicated process of selection. Aberdeen, Belfast, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Brighton, Bristol and Glasgow are some of the strong candidates on the list for the event. The others are Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, London, Newcastle, Nottingham, Sheffield, Swindon and Wolverhampton.

Obviously, this is a starting list, BBC and EBU will wait for the official applications from this week. After the summer we’ll have a most accurate list. EBU has asked for a location of, at least, 10 thousands spectators (besides a press center), easily accessible from an international airport and with an extensive hotel accommodation.

The Eurovision Song Contest 2022 is just over, but a new edition is coming soon. With all the problems of the case, this is gonna be a renewed event. Good for the Ukrainians, good for the British. Hope we will say the same for the music.
