Elton John Is First To Have UK Top Ten Hits In Six Decades

Elton John Dua Lipa cold heartThe Official Charts Company confirmed that Sir Elton John is the first artist in UK chart history to have a Top 10 single in each of six different decades. His current hit Cold Heart, featuring Dua Lipa and remixed by Australian electronic trio Pnau, is John’s 33rd Top 10 single on the Official Charts Company’s “Official Singles Chart”. The remix mashes up Elton John hits Sacrifice, Kiss the Bride, Where’s the Shoorah and Rocket Man.

The song has just reached the first position in the chart!

The 74-year-old artist broke the record, surpassing Elvis Presley, Cher, Michael Jackson, Cliff Richard, and David Bowie. All of them have had a single in the Top 10 “only” for five different decades. Cliff Richard could have been on the same level as Elton John with singles in the top ten charts of six different decades, but the first of these were with his groups the Drifters and the Shadows.

The Lockdown Sessions, Elton John’s new album

Cold Heart is the lead single from John’s forthcoming album The Lockdown Sessions. The record has been released on October, 22nd.

In addition to the collaboration with Dua Lipa, the timeless artist worked with big hit talents including Lil Nas X, Stevie Nicks and Stevie Wonder. Elton John developed some collaborations over Zoom. He said: “All the tracks I worked on were really interesting and diverse. Stuff that was completely different to anything I’m known for. Stuff that took me out of my comfort zone into completely new territory.”

Furthermore, The Lockdown Session reminds Sir John the dawn of his career. “At the start of my career, in the late 60s, I worked as a session musician. Working with different artists during lockdown reminded me of that … I was a session musician again. And it was still a blast.”
