More good news coming with Christmas vibes! After the early release of Ariana Grande and Kelly Clarkson’s holiday song Santa, Can’t You Hear Me, Ed Sheeran reveals a secret collaboration that shocked and excited fans.
After the release of his most recent song Bad Habits and his long-awaited record, “=” (“Equals”), Ed Sheeran declared that he will share a Christmas song in collaboration with Elton John.
Ed Sheeran’s gaffe at Jan-Willem Start Op
Pop singer Ed Sheeran revealed the upcoming song on October, 6th in an interview on the Dutch morning radio program Jan-Willem Start Op. In fact, he declared to radio station NPO Radio 2 that the duo is collaborating on a Christmas song. Hosts Jan-Willem Roodbeen and Jeroen Kijk in de Vegte asked the artist about his musical projects for 2021 holiday period. Ed Sheeran finally revealed the secret song and told them about the collaboration. “It’s f—ing great,” he said.
Ed Sheeran also revealed that Elton called him on 2020’s Christmas Day and asked him to participate in the musical project. “He rung me on Christmas Day and he said, ‘Step Into Christmas is number 6 on the charts, and I’m 74, and I’m still having f—ing chart hits, this is great! I want to do another Christmas song, will you do it with me?'”
Elton John’s reaction
“Elton rings me almost every single day,” said the artist. In fact, as Elton stated, the duo is still working on the song. As a matter of fact, according to Elton, Ed Sheeran shouldn’t have revealed the news until December.
Few days after the unexpected spoiler, Elton John spoke to NME. “Yeah, he let the cat out of the bag, didn’t he?”
John continued: “I was sworn to secrecy and then big mouth f***ing Sheeran goes to the Netherlands! It’s supposed to come out – we haven’t finished it yet, so there’s still work to be done.”
