Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift Drop “The Joker and The Queen”

Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift are two of this generation’s greatest songwriters, and they’re here to remind us on “The Joker and The Queen.” Sheeran, in an Instagram post to his fans, explained that the song and accompanying music video are like a sequel.

Ten Years in the Making

Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift first started collaborating more than ten years ago. As Sheeran puts it, “Me and Taylor first met and wrote + recorded our first song together in 2012, ten years ago now, I’m so so honored to have her on this song.” Swift’s breathy, cautious voice compliments Ed perfectly. “The Joker and The Queen” is a sequel to “Everything Has Changed”, a collab released in 2012 with Taylor’s Red album.

“The Joker and The Queen” is a Reprisal

Taylor and Ed brought plenty of nostalgia when they re-cast their lookalikes from the “Everything Has Changed” music video. This time, the kids are all grown up and attending college. Fans have waited ten years to see what’s become of them, and Taylor and Ed did not disappoint.

Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran Give Us Nostalgia

Taylor Swift gushed over the project on Instagram. She writes, “Congrats @teddyphotos!! This video makes me think of our friendship all these years… also can’t believe Jack & Ava from the Everything Has Changed video came back and did this!! Nostalgic heaven!” If you want to see what the actors looked like in the first video, you can watch it below.

“The Joker and The Queen” is an achingly beautiful love song. Sheeran and Swift sing delicately, completing a story ten years in the making. With a soft piano melody in the background, it’s hard not to appreciate how charming this song is. That’s why we think “The Joker and The Queen” is a perfect listen this Valentine’s Day.
