Melt My Eyez See Your Future
Florida rapper and songwriter Denzel Curry shared the visual for “X-Wing” and the extended edition of his 2022 album on October 7th. Curry recruits the Cold Blooded Soul Band for intimate live versions of eight tracks from Melt My Eyez See Your Future. The rapper and the 10 person band joined for his NPR Tiny Desk Concert and recently performed on The Tonight Show.
Released on March 25th of this year, Melt My Eyez See Your Future, gives a glimpse into the mind of the 27 year old, magnified around his own self reflection. In contrast to his previous work, Curry on this LP explores vulnerability and soul searching. He leaves out his usual aggressive delivery and bass-boosted instrumentals. He strips away his alter egos to reveal his true authentic self.
Cold Blooded Soul Version of “Melt Session #1”
Subsequently, Denzel Curry adds two new tracks and a Soul Version of eight tracks from Melt My Eyez See Your Future. Firstly, we hear a Cold Blooded Soul Version of “Melt Session #1” on the extended edition. Curry performs a live version with a band playing the drums, piano keys and guitar. On “Melt Session #1” the rapper confesses he dealt with suicidal thoughts, molestation, and love addiction. He pushed away his daily problems to avoid facing them. The track shows how Curry is self aware of his inner flaws and he takes accountability and apologizes for some of his mistakes. Accountability, I take responsibility/For all my actions, I packed them in these soliloquies.” He portrays his growth, admitting his faults and promising to make amends with the people he has wronged.
“Chrome Hearts (feat. Zacari)”
Similarly, on “Chrome Hearts (feat. Zacari)” reflects on his past and strives to better himself. He looks at his life with a magnifying glass to see what shaped him. Curry looks at the affects fame has had on him providing an extensive supply of money and women. He acknowledges his selfishness and lack of self awareness in the past. The rapper now strives to fulfill his destiny and continue to evolve.
X-Wing Music Video
Lastly, the “X-Wing Cold Blooded Soul Version” is accompanied by a music video where Curry launches into the sky on an X-Wing Star fighter vehicle. He travels through a society dominated by computer technology. The video incorporates animations and draws inspiration from science fiction films. In contrast, Denzel discusses his experience with wealth in the lyrics. He will never stop reaching to be the richest and have the finest of things. He highlights his accomplishments as a rapper and the cars, jewelry, clothes he can afford. “I don’t want a car, I want an X-Wing/I’m just onto the next thing.” He wants the next big thing and it seems he can never be satisfied with what he already has.
