Coldplay & BTS Unite on Intergalactic “My Universe”

Coldplay & BTS just gave us a collaboration that we definitely didn’t see coming. The bands united on the new song “My Universe,” and we are loving the sound of it.

Two Worlds Collide on “My Universe”

The bilingual song – Sung in English and Korean – takes us indeed to a whole other universe. The upbeat, danceable pop track features Coldplay frontman Chris Martin harmonizing on vocals while members of the worldwide-known K-pop band BTS join him.

“My Universe” arrives in anticipation of Coldplay’s upcoming album Music of the Spheres, due on October 15. Prior to the single’s release, the band dropped “Overtura,” the album’s trailer, and the 10-minute-long track “Coloratura.” Yes, you read that right. The song lasts 10 minutes!

While appearing on The Kelly Clarkson Show, Coldplay’s Chris Martin shared how they decided to work with BTS. “We really don’t believe in any boundaries or separation of anything really, and so the song ‘My Universe’ is about someone being told they can’t love a certain other person, or can’t be with this race, or they can’t be gay, whatever it might be. And we thought it would be good to sing this with BTS because maybe we’re not supposed to be together. And it turned out to be one of the most fun things ever. I went to Korea to be with them, it’s been amazing.”

An Outer World Music Video

The outer world song came out with an accompanying music video. Set in a distant future where music is banned, the space-themed video was directed by Dave Meyers, who has worked with the likes of Missy Elliot, Drake, Young Thug, Billie Eilish, Ariana Grande, and others.

In the music video, Coldplay, BTS, and an alien band named Supernova 7 are located on three different planets. To rebel against the music ban, the three entities join forces via hologram to perform “My Universe,” a song that praises love and unity.
