Brockhampton Is Full-Speed Ahead With Roadrunner

Brockhampton’s new single steps the supergroup up a notch.

‘Count On’ Brockhampton To Raise to bar

Brockhampton has released yet another single off their highly anticipated, upcoming album. Their most recent single, “Count On Me,” dropped April 1 and further proves the group’s improvement within this new era. The single doesn’t have a video, but instead features a few more members from the talented collective. Making sure to keep their identifying 2000s-inspired rap flow and R&B hooks, Brockhampton created another catchy banger.

“WHO LET THE DOPE BOYS OUT?!?”

Those are the first words Kevin Abstract screams out from their last single “BUZZCUT,” which features Danny Brown. From virtually perfect production to amazing lyrical delivery, the group is taking their talents to the next level.

The last time we heard the boy band, they showed a softer side of their music within their fifth studio album, 2019’s Ginger. Regardless, the album was still a hit and featured the hit single, “Sugar.” It marked the first time Brockhampton had a song on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100, peaking at number nine. It later became their first entry on the Billboard Hot 100, debuting at 70 and staying on the chart for nine weeks.

Despite seeing a surge of commercial success in 2019, Brockhampton has actually been steadily gaining influence ever since their Saturation trilogy in 2017. It seemed like early on the band had all the components of an all-star cast. With great singing, rapping, production, and content, the only thing the young band was missing was some wisdom.

From the looks of the things on social media, they’ve got that and plenty more to show off on this new project. The band has been posting snippets of genius music personalities. Acclaimed producers Rick Ruben and RZA critiqued the album, too. To say the least, their reactions have us thinking this may become album of the year.

BROCKHAMPTON’s Roadrunning

These new singles come with an attitude and energy rarely heard from the group and it’s all ahead of their upcoming album, Roadrunner: New Light, New Machine. Their upbeat instrumentation features a digital, grunge-inspired beat with nostalgic sounds scattered in-between. The siren background in “BUZZCUT” and subtle whistle on “COUNT ON ME” mix in perfectly with this new perspective. Kevin’s passionate and unexpected in-your-face verse reels you in from the first second, but the R&B style outro keeps you on the edge of your seat. Dom McLennon and Matt Champion contribute some precise bars on the softer second single, as well.

Without a doubt, the band is back with a more mature and better-executed sound. The hype was already pretty high before the album and visual for “BUZZCUT” dropped. However, now we know that we should expect a compilation of amazing production, bars, and singing from Brockhampton soon. The group has already released the cover art and plan to do a Livestream event the day of the album release.

Check out the new singles and be sure to look for the album drop on April 9!
