This past weekend, Canadian rapper, Belly, released his album with featured from some of the hottest artists out now. See You Next Wednesday is the third album from the artist who’s been behind the scenes for a decade.
The 15-track is an absolute banger with trap-inspired beats and a list of heavy-weight features. The album features guest appearances from the Weeknd, Young Thug, Moneybagg Yo, PnB Rock, Gunna, Nas, Nav, Lil Uzi Vert, Big Sean, and Benny the Butcher.
Belly, who is a part of RocNation and The Weeknd‘s XO label has battled for the last two years just to bring us this record. Although I wouldn’t say the album is groundbreaking or particularly special, it still deserves a few plays.
The Making Of Belly’s Album
A year before the drop on April 2020, Belly took to social media sparking the process of a new album. There he revealed that for years he’s been going to therapy for depression and PTSD.
He also revealed that he regained the weight he had previously lost and that he was on anti-depressants. He then hinted that new music was coming soon, by stating. “This sh*t is all I got if anything can bring me back from the ashes; it’s music, my family & my fans. I don’t need sympathy or pity from anyone, I’m only saying this to let y’all know: I won’t lay down and die… see you next Wednesday”.
After helping write and produce songs for people like Beyoncé, Belly is looking to step into the spotlight. The artist responsible for hits like “Earned It” is starting a new era for his music and he has the talent to pull it off. Just check out the leading single on the album “Die For It.” The ominous, slow-rolling single features The Weeknd and Nas as well as a music video.
