British folk-rock band Bear’s Den released their latest single “Spiders,” along with a new album announcement.
“Spiders” Gives a Taste of Blue Hours
In November, Bear’s Den delivered their first and only song of 2021, “All That You Are.” Fast forward to two months later, the rock band has released a follow-up single “Spiders,” along with the exciting news that their fourth studio album, Blue Hours, is coming out on May 13 via Communion Records.
“I started writing ‘Spiders’ around the time we left London,” band member Davie shares. “In my head, I thought moving would solve lots of problems, like everything will be better-almost like this Neverland vibe. ‘Spiders’ is a song dealing with the fact that this absolutely wasn’t the case. I had this vision in my head that I’d be at one with nature, that I’d be calmer – but all the things that were rattling around in my brain before were still there after the move. The song is about the fact you can’t run away from the things that are bothering you.”
“Spiders” talks about not knowing how to fix the mistakes already made and letting the person you love go on their own way. Following this theme, the album will be mostly about self-reflection and mental health, which band members have struggled with in recent years. “It’s the main overarching theme with this record,” Davie adds. “It probably speaks to our struggles and hopefully many other people’s too. Men are not very good at talking. We’re not really taught how to – men have no idea how to talk about this stuff, certainly to each other.”
