Beabadoobee, born Beatrice Laus, skyrocketed to fame in 2020 when her song “Coffee” was interpolated into a lo-fi Tik Tok hit. With the help of Canadian rapper Powfu, the song has gathered over a billion streams on Spotify. So what do you do when you’ve set impossibly high standards on the FIRST song you ever wrote? Well, beabadoobee is living up to the hype. Between her debut, last year’s Fake it Flowers, and the Our Extended Play EP, beabadoobee is shaping up as one of the most prominent voices in indie pop.
Beabadoobee’s Latest Single “Talk”
Her latest drop, “Talk” is one of her best yet. Grungy guitars and lo-fi vocals give the track an air of 90’s nostalgia that we’ve come to love from beabadoobee. It has a melodic, earworm chorus that guides this gently rocking track. “We go together like the gum on my shoes/ We make out, we make out when it’s too late/ We go out, we go out on a Tuesday,” she sings. And be sure to stick around for the guitar solo that comes in around the minute and a half mark. Beabadoobee says she wrote this track right after her first album. “I was obsessed with Tuesday because I thought it was the best night to go out, not too much chaos but just enough to have a good time. Generally, it’s about doing things that aren’t necessarily healthy or great for you, but you can’t help indulging. It’s like that unavoidable feeling that you get. You can’t get rid of it, and you know it’s bad, but you love it really, and it’s whatever, so you do it anyways.”
Beabadoobee has announced her sophomore LP, Beatopia (pronounced Bay-A-Toe-Pee-Uh), named after the imaginary world she created at 7 years old. It arrives July 15 via Dirty Hit, the British label sporting acts like The 1975, Wolf Alice, and Rina Sawayama. Beabadoobee recently teamed up with Cavetown on “Fall In Love With A Girl”. Catch Beabadoobee On Tour
Beabadoobee is busy touring for the next few months, hopefully coming to a city near you. She’s hitting the road for a US tour this spring as well as a ton of summer festival dates like Coachella, Primavera, Hangout Fest, and more.
