Last Christmas
“Holiday time slowly emerging,” writes Canadian ’90s rock icon Alanis Morissette a while back on her social media accounts, introducing her short release to her beloved fans. Announcing one of the tracks in the EP, Alanis writes her love for one of her favorite voices.
Alanis Morissette shares her first Christmas EP, Last Christmas. The EP is a Christmas-themed, short record with the singer’s unique performance of Christmas classics. It includes the following four tracks:
- “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)”
- “Little Drummer Boy”
- “What Child Is This? (Ft. Julian Coryell)”
- “Last Christmas”
“i covered one of my favorite people and voices of all time… George Michael. this holiday WHAM! song was a big part of my childhood,” Alanis says on her Instagram.
On the cover, a picture of a young Morissette shines as her bright smile and a cheerful Christmas drawing on a black background decorate the album.
In the album, Morissette’s personal tone and touch invade the songs, making each cover her own. From John Lennon’s “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” to a Frank Sinatra inspired arrangement of “Little Drummer Boy. ” She then contrasts classic “What Child Is This?” to WHAM!’s “Last Christmas.” The singer commemorates, remembers and recreates both her childhood memories and ours through this magical short album of covers that is Last Christmas.
