Setting the Stage with Wakanda Forever Prologue EP

Music has the power to heal, to express, to be catharsis. Of course this corresponds to what many of us would consider “regular music.” Y’know, the music made by a particular artist. Someone you can go see, an album you can buy and feel a single person or a band behind it. Enter OSTs and you have a whole other ball park of intentions and purposes. You have tracks for mood setting, you have tracks that help a scene garner the response desired, you can pump up an audience. Then… then there’s the special case of “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.” Let’s get into it.

Setting the Stage & Healing:

On July 25th, Marvel Studios released the “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Prologue” EP. Being made up of only three tracks, this seemingly insignificant release confirms what this movie will tackle. The death of Chadwick Boseman came as a surprise to practically everyone. This snuffed out the hope of seeing the iconic and impactful actor reprise his role as the equally iconic and impactful character: T’Challa. The King of Wakanda that desired to go against generational expectations to provide and be more than what came before. As far as we understand, T’Challa has died as well within the film and the story will be dealing with the grief and consequences of that.

Specifically, the story of his loving sister: Shuri, played by Letitia Wright, as she deals with just that and eventually taking up the mantle of Black Panther. This is, of course, speculation from myself given the trailer and music, but what’s safe to say is that this will be a journey. As for the music itself, you have an amazing cover of “No Woman, No Cry” by Tems. Which leads into “A Body, A Coffin” by Amaarae, and “Soy” by Santa Fe Klan. It goes from immense sadness and longing to determination to rise up and do what’s right, now that’s a hero’s journey.
