88rising Hold Inaugural Moonrise Gala Honoring Asian Talent

Honorees for the first-ever Moonrise Gala included Hong Kong entertainer Jackson Wang, Indonesian singer-songwriter NIKI and Filipino-American dance-pop artist Jocelyn Enriquez.

The Inaugural Moonrise Gala

Music and media company 88rising has held its very first Moonrise Gala this past Saturday, February 17. The gala took place at Milk Studios in Los Angeles, and honored global Asian talent.

According to Billboard, 88rising founder and CEO Sean Miyashiro released a statement about the gala. “88rising started as a vision, an attempt to build a home on the internet for Asian creatives because there was nothing out there at the time,” he said. “With 88rising’s inaugural Moonrise Gala, we continue to ride on the momentum we’ve built over the years.”

The gala was held this past Saturday as part of a new Lunar New Year tradition. LNY began on February 10, exactly one week before the event. The Moonrise Gala started the night off with a red carpet. The guests then had the chance to explore the venue and mingle before the official festivities began. Several of the honorees took to the stage and performed.

Additionally, attendees were able to appreciate the featured visuals of the event, which were produced by K2 World. K2 World is an event production agency that specializes in creativity. The agency’s work includes the Book of Hov Exhibition in Brooklyn and Kering Generation Award in Shanghai.

The Honorees

At the Moonrise Gala, several Asian artists were honored for their achievements. Notably, Hong Kong entertainer, fashion icon and entrepreneur Jackson Wang; Indonesian singer-songwriter and producer NIKI; and Filipino-American dance-pop artist Jocelyn Enriquez were all honored.

Hip-hop turntablists group Invisibl Skratch Piklz, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton and GRAMMY-winning, multi-talent Anderson .Paak were all also honorees.

Every honoree received a Moonrise Medal, a one-of-a-kind medal created by NYC-based jewelry line Anna Kikue. Aside from representing and celebrating the honoree’s feats, the medal also celebrates the new year. According to Billboard, the organizers want the medal to represent “an embodiment of the 88rising brand, functioning as both a family crest and a living legacy for prosperity.”
