Lizzo Wins First Emmy
Lizzo won big at the 2022 Emmy Awards for best competition series with show ‘Watch Out for the Big Grrrls’. With that being said, the 34-year-old singer is now half way to EGOT status. In order to achieve EGOT status you must win all four of the following awards: an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony. These major American Entertainment Awards recognize excellence in music, acting, and emerging media.
Lizzo’s Acceptance Speech
Lizzo has a total of three grammy awards for records “Truth Hurts”, “Jerome” and critically acclaimed album Cuz I Love You. Her acceptance speech at the Emmy awards was her most emotional one yet. She praised her “big girls” whom she invited on stage with her, and let it be known how much the women mean to her. “The stories they shared are not that unique, they just don’t get the platform. Let’s just tell more stories.” The musician also spoke on the importance of representation in the media. She says, “When I was a little girl, all I wanted to see was me in the media. Someone fat like me. Black like me. Beautiful like me. If I could go back and tell little Lizzo something, I would be like, ‘You are gonna see that person but b-tch, it’s gonna have to be you.” Lizzo did not see someone that looked like her in the media, so she had to become that person.
