Get to Know Faye Webster

After releasing her 2019 LP, Atlanta Millionaires Club, Faye Webster was an artist to watch. But with her incredible 2021 record, I Know I’m Funny haha, Faye Webster cemented her status as an indie it girl. Even Barack Obama is a fan of hers, including her track “Better Distractions” on his 2020 “Songs of the Year” playlist. And listening to her breezy, unique brand of folk and R&B tinged tunes, it’s so easy to see why indie fans and former presidents alike are all Faye Webster fans.

A Sound of Her Own

Blending 70’s style retro R&B with airy, twangy country, Faye creates a sound you’ll have a hard time hearing from anybody else. You can hear the influences of her hometown of Atlanta as she effortlessly mixes genres. You can hear a palpable soulfulness in her music, with billowing pedal-steel swirling in the background. This is an interesting contradiction to her stoic, matter-of-fact lyricism. But it’s her lyricism that makes Faye so special. She shares candid stories with the kind of detail that makes it feel like an old friend calling to catch up. Listen to her reminisce on her last album’s title track, “I Know I’m Funny haha.” “I think your sisters are so pretty/ Got drunk and they forgot they met me/ I made her laugh one time at dinner/ She said I’m funny and then I thanked her/ But I know I’m funny haha”, she sings.
